LIVING WITH IDEAS

We are artists who design and construct living environments and environments to live in.  Our designs merge craftswomynship with improvisation, utopian ideals with raw instinct.  We borrow patterns and memories from the objects in our lives that have touched us and have brought us together.   From custom cabinetry, to furniture suites and individual pieces, our work explores how we, as producers and consumers live with our ideals of belonging, citizenship, and community.

Inspired by "Soft Power", domestic merchandise used as commercial propaganda during the Cold War, we imagine a modern material vocubulary for the home. Our company name, VEB, stands for Very Extra Best, which we are. It also stands for "Volkseigener Betrieb", (or "People-Owned Company"), the brand name for commercial merchandise produced in the former East Germany.
